Unfortunately women are exposed to beauty everywhere they turn, and lip injections of the stars are the topic of conversation. This procedure is a little less risky than a facelift, so more and more women are opting for it. There are several things to consider before going ahead with this cosmetic treatment.
Lip Injections Cost
Any woman who is considering undergoing Lip Injections in order to increase the fullness of her lips has a number of issues to consider. With the patient paying $300 to $500 for a full treatment, lip augmentation is costly. The price of the treatment in many salons is difficult to quantify because it comes packaged and discounted with other facial treatments.
Another problem is the variation in length of the effects of the treatment. One patient complained when the effect of a Juvederm injection that cost her $450 lasted only three weeks. Yet, it was supposed to last for six to eighteen months. The patient should enquire, in advance, if the price includes ‘back-up’ injections.
Lip Injections Before and After
When it comes to lip enhancement, beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder. Testimonials vary from delighted, to vaguely satisfied, and to downright dissatisfied. Yet, apart from the lip jobs that are a downright disaster, the available ‘after’ photographs don’t show any great variation in results.
The happiest patients seem to be older women with very thin lips in the ‘before’ photo, and moderately filled lips afterwards. Medical reactions to the treatment vary, too. Most patients report a small amount of tenderness and swelling in the days immediately following the treatment. However, both swelling and pain vanish within three to six days, leaving a satisfied, full-lipped patient.
Collagen Lip Injections
It makes biological sense to augment lips with collagen, the structural protein that our skin is made of. Bovine collagen is the type used, derived from the connective tissue of the cow. This substance gives a good result, leaving the patient with a pair of lips that remain plump and full for two months to a year and a half.
In the longer term, the collagen in the lips is metabolised by the body, which is why the treatment is not permanent. Since 3% of the population are allergic to bovine collagen, it is wise for the first-time patient to have an allergy test done before any treatment. However, even when no allergy is detected, the patient can incur problems that include infection and ulceration.
Restylane Lip Injections
Restylane, the trade name for synthesized hyaluronic acid, is a substance that is distributed through connective and epithelial tissue. It has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use in cosmetic injections. The Restylane group of products includes Restylane-L, Perlane and Perlane-L.
These should not be used on a patient with a history of drug allergies, or while the patient is suffering a skin problem such as acne, a rash or a cyst. Otherwise, the treatment process is identical, Lip Injections with side effects; bruising and swelling that goes away in a few days – and a magnificent pair of lips, afterwards.
